You could say a stub is a fancy mock. In Spock you will often read about stub methods. A spy is kind of a hybrid between real object and stub, i.e. it is basically the real object with some (not all) methods shadowed by stub methods. Non-stubbed methods are just routed through to the original object.
What is stub data?
Stub is an object that holds predefined data and uses it to answer calls during tests. It is used when we cannot or don’t want to involve objects that would answer with real data or have undesirable side effects. An example can be an object that needs to grab some data from the database to respond to a method call.
What are mocks and stubs?
A Mock is just testing behaviour, making sure certain methods are called. A Stub is a testable version (per se) of a particular object.
What is stub used for?
A stub may simulate the behavior of existing code (such as a procedure on a remote machine; such methods are often called mocks) or be a temporary substitute for yet-to-be-developed code. Stubs are therefore most useful in porting, distributed computing as well as general software development and testing. What is Spy in Spock?
6. Spying Classes in Spock. Spies provide the ability to wrap an existing object. This means we can listen in on the conversation between the caller and the real object but retain the original object behavior. Basically, Spy delegates method calls to the original object.

A method stub or simply stub in software development is a piece of code used to stand in for some other programming functionality. A stub may simulate the behavior of existing code (such as a procedure on a remote machine; such methods are often called mocks) or be a temporary substitute for yet-to-be-developed code.
How do you use stubs?
To use stubs, you have to write your component so that it uses only interfaces, not classes, to refer to other parts of the application. This is a good design practice because it makes changes in one part less likely to require changes in another. For testing, it allows you to substitute a stub for a real component. What is a stub APK?
Instead of including the whole APK, manufacturers can include a “stub”. An APK stub has the same icon as the app it represents and it is signed with the same keys. However, it is only an empty app that redirects to the Play Store. This way, manufacturers can include apps without taking up more than a few KB of space.

What is difference between stubbing and mocking?
Stubbing, like mocking, means creating a stand-in, but a stub only mocks the behavior, but not the entire object. This is used when your implementation only interacts with a certain behavior of the object. Let’s discuss how we can apply these methods to improve our testing in all levels of the pyramid above.
What is stubbing in API?
What is API Stubbing? The simplest of the three test doubles is the API stub. When a tester creates stubs, they’re creating parts with minimal implementations of an interface. A stub always returns hardcoded data, or “canned” answers, to API calls made during individual tests.
What is GroovySpy?
GroovySpy() Creates a Spy() with additional, Groovy-specific features. Each factory method accepts up to three parameters, each of which is optional (resulting in eight method overloads): type. The interface or class type of the mock.
Why would you use a spy in a test?
Spies are a way to check if a function was called or to provide a custom return value. We can use spies to test components that depend on service and avoid actually calling the service’s methods to get a value.
What is a stub python?

What is a stub class?
A stub is a class supposed to return data from its methods and functions. … Stubs are used inside unit tests when we are testing that a class or method delivers expected output for a known input. They are easy to use in testing, and involve no extra dependencies for unit testing.
What is the difference between stub and proxy?
Stub. The client side object participating in distributed object communication is known as a stub or proxy, and is an example of a proxy object. The stub acts as a gateway for client side objects and all outgoing requests to server side objects that are routed through it.
What is stub file Java?

What is a content provider Android?
A content provider manages access to a central repository of data. A provider is part of an Android application, which often provides its own UI for working with the data. However, content providers are primarily intended to be used by other applications, which access the provider using a provider client object.
